CHEVRON
… And viola! This is how I would style my colorful Chevron printed dress. I scored this beauty at a beautiful little boutique called Maiko, which is what I consider a gem of a store in my neighborhood in Queens. And for those of you who have been following you may also remember my obsession with this fun print is extended to my home decor  and of course my take on the print this winter, sporting my beloved Missoni x Target black and white chevron printed top {as referenced here, here and here}.

OFF DUTY COOL
Happy Wednesday everyone! Decided to show you one of my older “off-duty” looks from this spring. Lately I’ve been influenced by the relaxed, effortless style both found in NYC and Paris (hence the stripes and neutral colors) and decided to blend these elements together to create the ultimate casual look. You can’t go wrong feeling both comfy and cute…

BARELY THERE
We’re finally in good graces as far as mother nature is concerned…  And this only means one thing= Bare legs, and the fact that we’re barely there for consistent & beautiful weather. I’m celebrating in my spring staples including stripes and leopard prints. As we begin this transitional period it’s important to return back to staples and have light-weight items that are suited for layering. East coast weather is temperamental, but hopefully we won’t have to worry for too long… And besides the brighter the clothes, the brighter the days. Mother nature has to at least understand that!

LOVERS + FRIENDS
Am I having a Sex and the City moment because I can’t help but wonder: What is New York made up of? Lovers, friends & everything in between…But most of all it’s made up of good fashion. Call me crazy or just plain annoying for considering this post an homage to everything and anything having to do with New York style, as I’m sure you’ve heard and it seen all before… But it may just be because I am overly attached to my new Lovers + Friends moto jacket and whenever I’m excited about a new piece I have to try to attach it to some deeper meaning. After-all, fashion is more then materials, it’s expression right? As such, I consider this jacket to be the ultimate city girl staple.

OUT & ABOUT
An unseasonably warm  day only means one thing, out with the {c}old and in with the new! Spring cleaning has never seemed so relevant in regards to all facets of life. Sartorially speaking, I for one and am ready to sport pretty pastels, light layers and embark on adventures in the best backyard there is… The big apple.  With the onset of festival and vacation season, I’m finding myself in a very easy-going mentality, despite any looming responsibilities that may be presenting themselves. Strolls in the city and lazy days in Central Park? YES PLEASE. I’m ready to constantly be out & about… Starting now!!

LOWER WEST STYLE
The influx of taxi’s, stylish folk and reminence of what an older New York used to look like, there’s something so irresistibly charming about the West Village…… And I guess you can consider this look my take on west side style - A little chic, a little daring and a little experimental… Probably a little more eclectic then I originally intended aha. Being that I spend a lot of my week in Chelsea, I’ve developed an affinity for the lower west side and you can usually catch me at least once a week coming out of the Christopher Street station off of the 1 train. These photos were snapped along a side street near Bleecker as I was indulging in one of my favorite {free} past-times, which is admiring the beautiful brownstones that house who I consider to be the luckiest New Yorkers. That’s the thing about New York, virtually everything and everyone emulates some sort of unique beauty or at least peaks intrigue everywhere you turn. A girl can only take so much inspiration…

BUSY BEE
Wearing bright colors and showing {some} bare skin seems to be all that’s on my mind as far as style is concerned. Although, I haven’t had much time to think more in depth about this sartorial subject. I’ve been running rampant between school, meetings and maintaining a social life and blogging affairs…{For those of you who don’t know, Le Style Child is currently in transition in being re-designed and adopting a new title.} As such, keeping everything straight has proven to be incredibly time consuming. So I guess the look you see pictured above is my way of embracing the craziness, by dressing in an appropriate black and yellow palette and clutching my new planner for dear life… I mean, I didn’t name this post “Busy Bee” for nothing… Bzzzzzz Bzzzzzz. Stay tuned!

WILD WINTER
So it would appear that winter is back, and despite the physical evidence that mother nature is imposing her rigid wrath here on the east coast, I can’t seem to shake warm weather trends from my mind. As such, I decided to make a style compromise which would fulfill my spring sartorial desires while remaining functional for the harsh climates. Here we go… My pre-spring warm up essentials: A printed dress courtesy of emerging brand Leota, my J.Crew panama hat and light weight denim jacket courtesy of Quiksilver. And to make this outfit seasonal: My vintage fur trim and Silvia booties from Coye Nokes - Two dark pieces that fit the winter palette seamlessly. I’d say this is taking mixing and matching to an entirely new level.

COLD CLASSICS
There’s nothing like a harsh reminder from mother nature to get you back to dressing in pieces that are considered more “season” appropriate. However, that may not be the case here as I’m still flouncing around with a short {but fun-feathered} skirt and high heels. Regardless, the sudden ice bomb New York is now experiencing kind of puts me back in the mood for a dark palette and classic winter staples. Namely my trench coat and my beloved Juicy Couture turtleneck knit. But what would fashion be without a twist or two, hence the feathered skirt and the classic ShoeMint pumps with the metallic sheen. I’m dressed in my navy uniform and ready for any climate.

{NYFW OUTFIT DIARY}
Now I know why they say “Save the best for last” -  I was very happy to end my fashion week with Nanette Lepore’s show last Wednesday. No matter the season, one of Lepore’s aesthetic choices that make every collection cohesive, is her use of color - Even in the most minuscule way. This season demonstrated a lot of muted dark greens and purples, and Nanette played off of this trend well, however incorporated some {literally} out of this world bright metallic elements, making her signature style shine on even more. Channeling that spirit, I chose to wore a bright babydoll dress from her latest collaborative junior line L’Amour, which is available available at J.C Penney. But let’s face it: Nothing shined brighter than what came down the runway last week. You go Nanette!

Reflecting on the shows this week there was one element that made all of the designer’s collections cohesive with what will apparently be on trend this fall… The color palette, specifically green hues. As such, mid-week I channeled this observation into my own look and the look above was the result: A much lighter take on the autumnal olive greens seen on the runways, but much more suited for the onset of Spring… Speaking of which, where are you September? I’m ready to see what’s in store for S/S 2014!

I made it a point to document one of my favorite looks of the week, which I chose to wore at the start of the madness! I was feeling inspired by the autumnal palettes, but instead of sticking to only browns and reds, I threw an olive green into the mix and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was flattering with my pale skin tone. And yes I’ll admit, I was excited to dress up and still am despite the challenge set forth by mother nature.

I decided to wrap up my 2012 posts with an ode to a trend that staked it’s claim this past Fall/Winter, which is the beloved color oxblood. Despite it having any vulgar connotation, I’ve learned to appreciate the color and it’s family palette (maroons, rubies, etc.) as I’ve gotten older - I’ve always found it to be rather mature and that it emulated a sense of royalty. But when I was finally given the tools (aka awesome pieces of clothing) to wear it properly, I found it can be as playful as any other fun color.
