Now I know why they say “Save the best for last” -  I was very happy to end my fashion week with Nanette Lepore’s show last Wednesday. No matter the season, one of Lepore’s aesthetic choices that make every collection cohesive, is her use of color - Even in the most minuscule way. This season demonstrated a lot of muted dark greens and purples, and Nanette played off of this trend well, however incorporated some {literally} out of this world bright metallic elements, making her signature style shine on even more. Channeling that spirit, I chose to wore a bright babydoll dress from her latest collaborative junior line L’Amour, which is available available at J.C Penney. But let’s face it: Nothing shined brighter than what came down the runway last week. You go Nanette!

IBM x The Style Line

*I have been invited by IBM to share my honest thoughts and experiences around Smarter Commerce, and as part of this collaboration, IBM may provide me with product, access, content or other forms of remuneration. All opinions are expressly my own.

New York Fashion Week has finally come to it’s end and as most of us know, with every ending comes a new beginning. As such, I am very happy to announce that I have partnered with IBM to participate in a new social-media generated campaign entitled My Smarter Commerce.
What is smarter commerce? It’s undefined and left to us to give it identity. For a personal definition: I think of smarter commerce as being constantly informed on how to evolve and maintain your personal brand through active and engaged conversations via technology and social media platforms - You are being smarter by being accessible in a number of ways. So, over the next 30 days, I’ll be sharing bits of my story in relation to how smarter commerce has enhanced my own brand. But that’s not at all, we want to know about your story too.
Yet how does this relate to the NYFW image you see above? Well here’s a bit of my story: I kicked off my fashion week by sitting front row at Kenneth Cole, which was amazing for two reasons: 1. The fact that it was KC’s return to the runway 2. The theme of show revolved around the digital age… To such an extent that for the final walk, the models came back out taking pictures of US {the audience} on smart phones.
This got me thinking:
If you consider a successful brand like Kenneth Cole, who in all honesty doesn’t need to utilize a lot of social media strategies/marketing to maintain sales but chooses to add that facet to their brand identity, then it must be pretty clear how much of an impact the digital age has had on all companies. I’ve been professionally blogging for a little over two years now, and in that span of time I’ve seen more new platforms arise {i.e.: Instagram, Pinterest, Vine, etc.} and more and more luxury brands begin interacting with consumers via these platforms.
To embrace Kenneth Cole’s acceptance and appreciation of social media, I decided that for every show I sat front row, I would capture these moments in the most raw and instantaneous way - Through Instagram, hence what you see above. This quick and easy delivery of my experiences as a fashion blogger, sitting front row was much more accessible then using traditional photos and posting maybe a day or two later. The other thing that has to be considered is all of the pre-show, backstage coverage, and live-streaming sent out by the designers themselves to the general public. It got me thinking about two things, Is the exclusivity of fashion shows dwindling/Is it even necessary to have physical shows? How much do you think fashion week(s) will change in the next five years?
But I first have a question for all of you: How does social media influence your own lives? Let the next 30 days be an open forum; re-blog this post with your answer using the hashtag #MySmarterCommerce. I will also be posting individual questions throughout the month for you all to answer… Let’s see where this conversation takes us.
Until next time! xo

Reflecting on the shows this week there was one element that made all of the designer’s collections cohesive with what will apparently be on trend this fall… The color palette, specifically green hues. As such, mid-week I channeled this observation into my own look and the look above was the result: A much lighter take on the autumnal olive greens seen on the runways, but much more suited for the onset of Spring… Speaking of which, where are you September? I’m ready to see what’s in store for S/S 2014!

alice + olivia

Furs, floral crowns, animal prints, brocades, glitter, leather, oh my! While we may tend to harp on the idea of less is more, in some cases more is definitely more. Just take cue from Stacey Bendet’s latest collection as a prime example of eclectic experimentation gone so incredibly right.

 KAELEN NY

Kaelen’s latest collection encapsulates the quintessential fall staple items, especially for those who typically lean towards structured pieces with a little flair. In this case the pop of violet prints contrasted just enough with the darker grey hues. There’s just enough to make this collection versatile but cohesive in its simplicity. Less really is more. xo

OSTWALD HELGASON

Ostwald Helgason’s usual clean and modern lines remained a constant in their F/W 2013 collection, which was a marriage of classic silhouettes coupled with eclectic elements including: Patterned and detail-oriented separates, and bold color blocking. Coupled with eclectic styling, each look demonstrated consistency with what’s currently on trend, especially tapping into the sports-luxe aesthetic - Note base-ball caps. A+.

CALLA

Leave it to a brand like CALLA, to make us forget that F/W is a time to brace ourselves and bundle up. This collection hosts a versatile palette - ranging from pastel sorbets to lush jewel tones with royal purples and dark blues. The play on texture also takes these simple silhouettes to a new level, making each piece whimsical and wearable for the girl on the go. It’s safe to say CALLA’s aesthetic is redefining what we consider seasonal staples.

I made it a point to document one of my favorite looks of the week, which I chose to wore at the start of the madness! I was feeling inspired by the autumnal palettes, but instead of sticking to only browns and reds, I threw an olive green into the mix and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was flattering with my pale skin tone. And yes I’ll admit, I was excited to dress up and still am despite the challenge set forth by mother nature.

kate spade NY

Amidst the dark hues, winter textures and excessive layering, leave it to Kate Spade to find a way to still  brighten up even the of harshest seasons. The brand once again embodied the essence of feminine style, with accents including oversized bows, structured bags and a whole lotta color. Coupling that with the thematic city elements {note the taxis}, it’s safe to say that I undoubtedly left the presentation in an empire state of mind… Despite the onset of the blizzard. So, thanks Kate Spade, for reminding us that no matter what, we should always live colorfully.

CANDELA NYC

The eclectic boho aesthetic that makes Candela a true dream has once again transported us into their romantic world with their Fall 2013 collection. The usual use of embellished separates, romantic gowns and staple coats and shoes is consistent with their past collections, proving that these cohesive elements are fail-proof.
