The denim industry is about to get a serious wave of California cool emerging company Silver Jeans Co. With founder Michael Silver’s cool aesthetic and down to earth personality, he was kind enough to share a bit about how the company got started as well as some spring styling advice! Check it out:

Tell us a bit about Silver Jeans Co.

Silver Jeans Co. is ‘true jean’ company that’s been around for over 20 years old and our parent company over 90 years old, so needless to say we have been making jeans and casual clothing for nearly a 100 years. We like to describe our brand as a family company that’s not afraid to have fun! We’re independent and free, with heritage.  We’re lucky enough to have so many years of design and manufacturing history which allows us to combine modern fashion trends with a real  knowledge of how to make the product as perfect as we can. We go absolutely crazy about every single detail on our clothing from fit to wash, to color and quality. We like to joke that our fans and customers are all a member of our Silver Jeans Co. “family of Friends.” Everyone who trys our stuff becomes family!

What inspires you?

We are inspired by what is happening around the world. We study Asia, Europe and the North America, looking for common threads of style and trend. We do not want to lead with Avant-garde fashion but we want to interpret fashion for the average fashionisto and make it comfortable, wearable and affordable.

How would you describe the design process?

We have a wonderful design team here, a mix of old artisan and new fresh fashion followers. We are very democratic about how we end up with our fashion (like a family!) We compare notes every month with our whole style team (based on their exhaustive global travels!) and then start translating it into “Silver Jeans Co. style “ which usually means finding its fit, its softness so it becomes like your favorite “old “ piece of fashion, but it’s new!

Who is the Silver Jeans Co. client?

Good question! We talk about this a lot! We believe our customer is the person who wants “accessible fashion. “Someone who reads the magazines and follows fashion bloggers and is up-to-date on trends. Our customer does not necessarily want to be THE leader, just “a“ leader. I would say our customer is between 18 and 35, educated, independent, not a slave to any brand. They’re someone who really appreciates workmanship and quality in the latest trends.

Can you give us some spring styling advice?

Sure! It’s not secret color is key, even white is important! But be careful, those spring color choices could be closet stuffing, if you do not select a color that works in summer and fall! Also, while many colors look great in the store, you really have to think about the rest of the items you wear with them, including your shoe selection! We think skinny is the best silhouette for color (men’s and women’s) and the new skinny bottom, relaxed upper body is a really happening look in Europe and Japan. Busting and bleaching is coming back as an answer for all the dark denim out there. In tops there is lots of subtle screening done in vintage looks on wovens and knits and they all look awesome with denim.

What do you like to wear denim with?

I am a huge fan of the mixed look, denim with a tie and blazer and vest paired with sneakers, or t-shirt with dark jeans and leather boots. I like the t-shirt or burn out top with jeans now. Its using indigo as part of a look, not a uniform.

What are your aspirations for Silver Jeans Co.?

I want more people to join our “family of friends and enjoy the comfort and value of our brand. We are opening many retail outlets across North America and I want our new family to experience the whole Silver feel, jeans, tops with the cool and casual environment we have.
